Commit to the Profession, Not the Hobby

There’s a clear difference between auctioneers who are interested in this business and those who are committed to it.

If you’re only dabbling—treating auctioneering like a side hobby—you’ll never see the results that come from taking it seriously.
This profession wasn’t built overnight. Generations of auctioneers have invested decades of work to raise the standard and open doors for all of us. If you’re going to prosper from that foundation, the least you can do is invest in your own growth.
Why Associations Matter
Joining your state association and the National Auctioneers Association is one of the clearest ways to demonstrate commitment. These organizations are where professionals sharpen their skills, share ideas, and build relationships that propel careers forward.
For me, membership in the NAA and the Tennessee Auctioneers Association was a catalyst. The education, networking, and opportunities elevated my career in ways that simply would not have happened on my own.
The Challenge
If you want to be taken seriously as an auctioneer, then take yourself seriously first. Step up, get involved, and align with the organizations that set the standard for our industry.
The auction business rewards commitment, not casual interest.
The question is, are you in this as a professional, or just pretending?
